Germany X Dying!Reader
The sound of bombs whistled through the air as they struck the earth with intense force, causing the ground beneath your feet to shake violently. A small piece of shrapnel came shooting across the sky, hitting you directly in chest. Breathless, you stuck your back towards the blast by leaning against a nearby wall, barely managing to stay on your feet. Immediately afterwards, a tall soldier ran towards you. He was shrouded in darkness due to the amount of smoke in the air. Plunging towards you, he grabbed your arm and tugged you away from the spot in which you stood. Your eyes blurred with water but you could just slightly make out an object hurdling towards the ground above the pair of you. Before you could say a word of warning, you were thrown into the safety of a bunker, along with a large explosion. With all the chaos of the battlefield behind, you could finally meet your saviour.
“Thanks.” You said through multiple coughs and splutters into your hands. A splattered mess of dark blood all over your shaky hands. The soldier turned to face you, his eyes as soft and blue as the skies that once were. Blonde haired, partly slicked back but the odd strand stuck out oddly, adding effect to his shocked expression as he gazed down at you. Suddenly you were lost in his eyes.
It was a slow day, but you’ll always remember it. The lonely German that sat across from you in the café was rather serious but you couldn't help but melt every time he looked in your direction. You clutched the menu and covered your face which was blushing uncontrollably like it was a silly high school crush. Unfortunately, he had to leave but just before he pulled him self away from his table, he glanced back at you straight into your eyes. They were so beautiful for such a serious look. Such a soft shade of blue. As he began walking towards a busy road, you couldn't keep your eyes off him, worried you would miss a moment.
“Excuse me, miss, are you okay?” Questioned a waiter who stood beside you. You quickly took your eyes of him for a moment and answered. Once the waiter was out of sight, you placed the menu back on the table. No cars were passing so a ton of people crammed themselves onto the road, The soft eyed German being the last. He strongly made his way across but at a risk. A car was heading in his direction. Alarm bells started to ring in your head as you dove towards him. The car continued down the road at an incredible speed which was directly in his path. Moments before the car reached him, you grabbed his arm and tugged him back onto the pavement. You couldn't believe what you had just done. You saved his life. Grateful, but incredibly shocked, he smiled down at you.
(Back to present)
“West…” You whispered.
“Zour injured!” He replied worryingly. Ludwig dove around frantically as he searched for antiseptic and other healing ointments. You outstretched your arm towards the panicked German desperate to have him hold your hand.
“Please Ludwig don’t worry so much, it’s not like you.” He turned to you, his eyes now streaming with tears. You smiled at him joyfully but feeling yourself getting colder and weaker with every passing minute. “I guess it was your turn to save me.”
“Ja…” He replied a slight smirk on his face. Several more bombs started to drop onto the base, shaking everything around the pair of you. Panic started to arise when others outside began to yell ‘Gas!’. Ludwig pulled himself away from you reaching for a gas mask which sat securely on a hanger. There was only one. He returned shoving the mask onto you frantically his hands trembling in fear. You shook your head slowly and took a hold of his hands. “____, Please…I vont let zou die!”
“West…death isn't something you can control…” You replied faintly. Ludwig broke down into tears, clenching his eyes shut. Whilst he couldn't see, you switched the mask over to him. “It’s my turn to save you again…” He grabbed you into a tight hug desperate for you not to leave but you could feel death edging it’s way closer as you breathing became more of a task to do. “Ich…Ich Liebe dich…”
“Ich Liebe dich auch, ____” Smiling you took your final glance into the beautiful blue eyes you instantly fell in love with so long ago. Some things never change, and the way you felt every time you saw Ludwig’s face never did.
